Candlyland is America’s favorite pastime. It is a simple board game that is easy to learn and fun to pay. It surpassed Monopoly in the early 1970’s. The game can have as little as two players, and up to four. Its color coded pieces (markers) help to allow for specific player recognition. The purpose of the game is to make it to the top, and collect candy along the way. There are shortcuts permitted in the game but only if a player gets lucky. The board game contains 134 green, red, yellow, purple, and orange colored spaces. Each colored space serving a different purpose. The main goal of the game is to make it to the top through the windy spaces. Players pull from a deck of cards, each assigned a color. The color of the card pulls indicated where the player moves their marker to (forward or backwards). On the board game, there are two ladders that connect parts of the windy track together. Pulling a colored card that lets you hop on the ladder gives any player a big advantage. Watch out for a goblin on any of the colored spaces, for it will take you back to the starting line. The game Candyland is highly favored over other popular board games such as Clue, Monopoly, and Cherry Pickers. It is easier to use, equipped with clearer instructions. Candyland first originated in Haiti by Jocelyn Reynolds. Reynolds, a mother of seven and her kids all relatively around the same age. She desired to create a game that her kids could play all together in hopes to create a better bonding experience. She had no idea of the success Candyland would obtain. Reynolds currently resides in Bosnia with her five remaining children.
