Catdog (Felis canis familaris)
The undomesticated Catdog (Felis canis familaris)1is a small mammalian carnivore found in the Southeastern region of the Galapagos Islands. It is a member of the Canfelidae family of the mammalian order of carnivora. Its species name “Catdog” refers to its ancestry in relation to the domesticated cat and the domesticated dog2. The Catdog’s anatomical structure is classified as bicephalic3 or“two-headed.” At the anterior the catdog’s facial makeup is similar to that of the extinct domesticated cat, and at the posterior its facial makeup is similar to that of the also extinct domesticated dog.
History and Discovery
The Catdog is first known to appear in the mid 3000’s after being discovered by Dr. Ezra Fitzchepelago, the current administrative head of the Division of Laboratory and Animal Discovery (DLAD) at the University of California, Los Angeles, who in 3037 led a seven year long expedition in the Galapagos Islands in search of new animal species. Centuries before the Catdog’s discovery, there was much speculation as to whether such creature existed. This was due to the media’s influence as well as false claims of sightings. In 3044, Dr. Fitzchepelago had the first real sighting of the Catdog. Since its discovery the Catdog has been cloned several times, and scientists are now preparing Catdogs for household domestication.
Popular Culture
In 1998 Nickelodeon first aired the American cartoon series CatDog4. It ran for a total of 2 seasons before it was canceled due to the mental institutionalization of the creator and writer Lois Hannigan. Hannigan claimed to be a soothsayer and used subliminal and hypnotherapeutic techniques within the context of the show to persuade people to believe that the Catdog exists and should be worshipped5.
