On October 6, 2018, the United States successfully completed their first DNA cloning cycle in humans. The experiment began on October 6, 1998. It is a several-year long process that Scientists must complete to be sure the experiment was a success and no negative side effects took place before releasing results. After a long 20 years of monitoring the progress of the test subjects, it has been confirmed that the DNA cloning experiment was a success. The test subjects have not displayed any kind of negative effects.
During the process DNA is collected from the subject and a copy is created over time. Samantha Smith was the subject whose DNA was collected and used for the experiment. Samantha Smith was born on March 1, 1988 and when diagnosed with a fatal disease, her parents enlisted her for the cloning project as a last chance for survival. 10 years after enlisting her, the cloning process began.
This experiment has been attempted thousands of times with no positive end result in humans, but with each trial Scientists became closer to success. At the time of Samantha’s trial the chances of successful cloning were approximately .0093%. This was the highest success rate reached at this point and Scientists decided to proceed with the trial. The DNA was copied in the lab and over the years the progress was monitored.
Every few months the women would arrive for testing to be sure everything was still performing accordingly. Over the last year, Scientists have concluded that after strict monitoring, this experiment has been considered a success. The genetic makeup of the two women was identical. The United States successfully created the first human clone by coping DNA.
