Jada Isamu (ジャダ・イサム), also known as Issamu: The Lost Ninja Warrior, is a Japanese fictional manga series written and illustrated by Nicole Vy Tran. It premiered on a popular website called Mangapark on August 24, 1994 and concluded on June 23, 2004, with the chapters collected into 48 tankōbon volumes by Shogakukan.
The series follows Jada Isamu, a 16 year old girl from Tokyo who is transported to the Sengoku period (戦国時代 Sengoku jidai, "Age of Warring States"; c. 1467 – c. 1603) after falling into a well outside her family home, where she develops ninja skills to take out some of the country’s top assassins in order to retrieve a sacred scroll for a dragon spirit.
In modern-day Tokyo, Japan, Jada lives on the grounds of her family’s farm with her father, mother, and grandmother. On her 14th birthday, while retrieving her dog in the farm, a dragon spirit bursts out of the Lost Well and drags her into it. However, instead of hitting the bottom of the well, Jada time travels to the past during Japan’s Sengoku period. The dragon spirit then explains to her that he seeks a sacred ancient samurai scroll; that would grant any wish the bearer desires. He explains that it had previously been retrieved by a warrior who went by the name of Shirotto. Shirotto was found dead three days after stealing the scroll from the Emperor of Japan. The scroll was then returned to the Emperor by the Imperial Japanese Army and has been kept in a locked chamber for decades since.
The dragon spirit goes on to explain to Jada that in order for her to return back home, she must obtain the samurai scroll and deliver it to the dragon spirit at the well the night of the great Lunar Eclipse. Jada later on finds a young man who was attacked by the Imperial Japanese soldiers nearby and quickly tends to help him. The author then introduces that the boy is Michio, a half-wolfed human who was pinned for by the Imperial Japanese Army for trying to steal the scroll. The day following after that, Jada then decides to persuade the Michio to help her retrieve the sacred scroll. He then agrees to help her train since she saved his life. However, as he agrees to help Jada retrieves the scroll, he does not tell her about his plan to take the scroll from Jada, to keep him from turning into a full wolf on the night of the Lunar Eclipse.
However, as their journey goes on over the series, Jada and Michio’s emotions start to reveal that they are falling in love with each other which then become a conflict on their mission to retrieve the scroll. Despite their differences, Jada and Michio work together to defeat the country’s top assassins to retrieve the sacred scroll.
