The unicorn is a legendary creature that has been described as a beast with a large, pointed, spiraling horn projecting from its forehead by a lot of writers since ancient time. The King James Bible also describes an animal, the re'em, which some translations have erroneously provided with the word unicorn.
There were so many reports of the unicorn since long time ago. The earliest known depiction about the unicorn were found in around 15,000 BCE. In the 5th century BCE, he wrote that the beast had a white body, purple head, blue eyes, and a multicolored horn—red at the tip, black in the middle, and white at the base. In the other hand, in the the report of Marco Polo, a Venetian merchant traveller who travels were record in the book Livres des merveilles du monde, unicorn were written as savagely violent animal with the appearance just like a rhinoceros.
The unicorn is well-known as a symbol of purity and innocent. It is reported by many ancient legends that only a virgin sitting naked under a tree has the power to attract a unicorn attention in order for the hunter to capture it. The dicussion about the legend of the unicorn has been widely spread out around the world. Genghis Khan reportedly decided not to conquer India after meeting a unicorn, which bowed down to him because he viewed it as a sign from his dead father and turned his army back. Mystical powers have always been associated with the unicorn in many reports. From its amazing strength – Jewish legend says they can kill an elephant – to its ability to tell truth from falsehood – confronted by a liar, a unicorn will pierce a liar through the heart – the unicorn occupies a definitive place in human history and culture.
Regardless of their highly questionable existence, unicorns continue to be popular. Their place in human culture is equivalent to that of dragons and faeries. They are depicted in human art, architecture and are frequently mentioned in songs, poetry, histories and stories. Unicorns are also a symbol when people to teach their children about purity and honesty. The legend of unicorn will exist in human mind despite of question mark about its existence.
