Ant

The Mega Ant, Formicidae Gigantis, is an enormous carnivorous species of ants that was discovered in the remote Falkland Islands in the 1800s by renowned myrmecologist, Dr. Edward von Klementine. They measure about 12 feet (3.65 meters) long and weigh about 150 pounds (68 kg). So far, they are only known to be indigenous to the Falkland Islands. Unlike most other species of ants, the Mega Ant is not as social, and instead of living in large colonies, live in small packs of about six to eight at a time. Whereas they do not have a traditional queen ant in their pack, the Mega Ants live in a matriarchal society, where the leader is usually female.

MorphologyEdit

Like most ants, the Mega Ant has six legs attached to the mesosoma. Their claw-like feet allows them to climb most obstacles and terrains. Their exoskeleton body is made of a hard shell, that is tougher than steel. On their head are two antennae that act as feelers and a way for the Mega Ants to communicate with each other via wave signals. Their razor-sharp jaws are rumored to be as tough as diamonds and can crush the bones of any prey they catch.

DietEdit

Mega Ants usually hunt their prey during the evening. They feed primarily on Southern Rockhopper Penguins, which are an abundant species on the island. However, Mega Ants are known to hunt other animals as well, from foxes to deer.

EndangermentEdit

In recent years, the Mega Ant has been placed on the endangered species list, as they have been hunted for trophies. Poachers still hunt them, as their exoskeletons and jaws sells for millions for use in weaponry within the black market.
