The Ocshun Tyde (oo-shen tide) is a large raptor commonly found along the coast of Japan. With a wing span of 3.1 meters and a body length of 5 meters, the Ocshun Tyde is the biggest raptor bird in the world today. It is a deep blue bird with variation of silver feathers spread throughout its body. Ocshun Tyde was discovered by aviary specialist Hakuna Moto who pond the name Ocshun Tyde when she mistaken the rare bird for the tides of the ocean. The Ocshun Tyde is the first known flight bird to be able to hold their breath for hours underwater, a trait not found within any type of bird other than the penguin.

History

The Ocshun Tyde was first spotted in mid Jan 2012 near Hokkaido Japan. It’s origin was a mystery until late December when aviary specialist discovered that the Ocshun Tyde was a mutation of the almost extinct Steller Sea Eagle. Following the tragic tsunami that left 300,000 dead and 2500 missing in 2011, Japan’s biggest nuclear power plant TEPCO was compromised leaking massive amounts of nuclear waste into water ways and agricultural grounds. This leakage affected the habitat of many animals, humans included but had the greatest effect on fishes. Japan’s most popular fish, the salmon, showed up with high amounts of radioactive materials such as cesium–137. A red alert on fish and produce was put out as Japan put a halt to the consumption and distribution of livestock and vegetation. The Steller Sea Eagle however, vagrant to the area gathered around once the supply of fish went up. Despite it’s rise in food source, the almost extinct species was even closer to extinction due to their consumption of these radioactive sources. It wasn’t until late December that this new breed of bird was discovered to be a mutation of the late Steller Sea Eagle.

Diet

The Ocshun Tyde’s diet consists mainly of fish. They are carnivores so they are spotted eating land animals and other birds from time to time. It is because of their fish-eating diet however that scientist concluded that the mutation that now allows them to hold their breath for hours underwater and survive extreme water pressure came to exist. The people of Hokkaido Japan claim it’s the first flying fish.

Concerns

There are still ongoing observation and research on this massive bird and its effect on the natural order of Japans wildlife. Although it is the biggest predatory bird in the world, its tendency to fish for food makes it a vulnerable target to other sea animals. The biggest concern Japan has today goes beyond this new breed of bird but what affect it may have on other animals and its effect on the habitat.
