Planet Z is a planet that lies outside of our solar system that potentially could harvest life. It was discovered in the year 2024 by a greek astronomer Andreas Kostouros. Andreas, who got his degree at the University of Purdue, was troubled by the findings of other astronomers that the planet Pluto was no longer a real planet. Astronomers call Pluto a dwarf planet meaning that it cannot clear other objects out of it’s orbit path.  Therefore, it no longer met standards of being a planet in the solar system. Growing up always being told that our solar system contains 9 planets, Andreas decided to find if there potentially is another planet out there that could fit as the 9th planet in the solar system.

After graduating from Purdue, Andreas took the little money he had and built a highly advanced telescope to see if he could catch a glimpse of anything. After many days of searching, he found a large Neptune sized planet beyond the horizon of pluto. He decided to name it Planet Z after his mother Zenaida which in greek means “born of Zeus.” What he found about Planet Z shocked most people. Planet Z has a 15,000 year orbit around the sun, orbiting in an oval shape. The benefit of having an oval shaped orbit is this causes the planet to come drastically close to the sun; almost as close as planet Earth. For 3,000 of its 15,000 year orbit, Planet Z comes close enough to the sun to support life, yet eventually it drifts far enough away to destroy all life created. The last time Planet Z was close enough to support life was almost 12,000 years ago. This means that less than a hundred years from now, we will be able to see Planet Z from Earth, or potentially, place a colony.

In 2027, Kostouros decided to create a plan to place a colony on Planet Z. He inquired about help from one of the top scientists in America, Vangelis Taousanis. Taousanis was also a Greek astronomer who admired Kostouros’ work yet had a prized resume of his own. Vangelis was known for getting the funding started to place a colony on Mars. Due to his persistence and focus, we now have the first ever colony on Mars.

Taousanis and Kostouros hope to get a plan set out so that once Planet Z is close enough, a colony can be sent out to live for a few thousand years. Since the Mars missions were so successful, the hard part is getting the people off the planet once it falls out of orbit with the sun. Scientists plan on getting a head start on the plan so once the time does come, they will be very prepared. They plan on using a similar system to the Mars missions, asking for individuals to apply to go to Planet Z. You can apply here at their website at www.gotoz.org
