Prince Charming

Prince Charming is a character that originated in fairy tales, such as what is shown in Disney movies. They are illustrated as heroic, romantic, and handsome. They are portrayed as someone who rescues the princess which results in them falling madly in love with each other.

Snow White, Cinderella, and Little Mermaid are fairy tales that illustrate the prince charming as an attractive man with confidence, and courage to save a princess from evil. In 1937, Snow White was created which starts the beginning of prince charming. A beautiful princess fell into a deep sleep from a potion that was given by an evil witch, and was saved by a handsome prince with his kiss. Fairy tales, such as Cinderella, inspired other movies to portray prince charming. In 1998, Ever After, with Drew Barrymore, is a recreation of Cinderella, and formed the saying “they live happily ever after”. Movies began to adapt to the prince charming concept such as in “Wedding Date” with Debra Messing. The prince charming concept is that she finds a man that rescues her from the past, and falls in love with him. The character was not a prince, but he was a man who was romantic, confident, and handsome.

The idea of prince charming originated when a girl starts watching the prince characters in a fairy tale stories. In pre-conventional stage, a girl watches the fairy tales, and begins to idolize the prince charming. The term “prince charming” begins to be the word that a woman symbolizes as her dream man “to live happily ever after” with him.
