Ty Hunter

Ty Hunter is a Canadian professional basketball player who plays Small Forward for the Maple Leaf Cleavers of the Canadian Basketball League. Hunter had a successful high school basketball career at Beacon Middle School, where he was noticed as the top high school basketball player in the country. He decided to declare his eligibility for the CBL after graduation, and was selected with the 20th overall pick in the 2010 CBL Draft by the Maple Leaf Cleavers. As a rookie, Hunter gained the respect of many veterans for his ability to pass the ball so well and a fan favorite by winning the 2010 Rookie of the Year.

Ty Hunter was born in Montreal, Quebec in the country of Canada as the third child of five. His parents were Tyler Hunter and Stephanie Shannon Hunter. Hunter was raised as a Buddhist. As a child Ty lived in poverty, the neighborhood he grew up in was filled with drug dealers and gangsters. Ty would walk down the street to a corner that had a basketball court. There he gained the skills and mindset to play tough on the court. He would be at the court on a daily basis, challenging anyone that wanted to play with him. In High School is when Ty earned the vision of CBL scouts during a spectacular performance in which he scored 49 points dished out 15 assists and grabbed down 17 rebounds over a rival teammate. Hunter was also an excellent scholar who passed his SAT’s and graduated with a 3.8 GPA, which got him the attention of many Colleges who would give him a full scholarship. Ultimately, however, the seventeen-year-old Hunter made the decision to go directly into the CBL.

During his rookie season, Hunter mainly came off the bench, during his short stints he would explode into an amazing player. He averaged 18 points 5 assists and 8 rebounds in his first season. With these numbers it got him the 2010 CBL Rookie of the year.
