My existence has been around for decades. Historically, the Ancient Egyptians had developed writing on papyrus scrolls when scribes used thin reed brushes. You would describe my body type as tall and slender. I am shaped to curve perfectly around your hands.  I provide variety for gel or calligraphy.

I am often accessible and needed when least expected. People like to disregard that they may need me more than they like to and would have to ask the person next to them to borrow me, but are never held accountable for returning me. I provide people power with a stroke to release ink onto paper. I get picked up more often than people tend to notice.

Since the coming of advanced technology and the need to reduce paper. As a result personally, hand written letters are no longer necessary. People no longer walk to a post office to send off hand written letters confessing their dying love or how much someone means to them.

There have been arguments about how handwritten notes are a lot more effective than typing. While other inventions and other methods came about for writing. I allow room for freewriting and creativity. Writers still find a thrill of my purpose.

Writer Lee Rourke explained in a post for The Guardian, “For me, writing longhand is an utterly personal task where the outer world is closed off, just my thoughts and the movement of my hand across the page to keep me company. The whole process keeps me in touch with the craft of writing.” I am still the main mean for writing.
